 i'm haylee harwick.

Lover of all things tech.  Just a beach town girl who loves old 90's tv shows, work life balance, large coffees and my family. I'm not afraid to share the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to teaching. Read on for the rest!

I wish I could say i've had a long time dream of wanting to be a teacher, or that since I was a little girl I wanted nothing more than educate the youth of America.  This of course is false, mainly because my mom was a teacher growing up (still is today) and I saw how hard she worked.  I would get dragged as a little girl, my sister and I, to help in her classroom over summer.  We would organize libraries, grade papers and even go to all after school functions. I went to college with a full intention of becoming an event planner or work in the area of PR.  I still remember my internship in LA for a PR lady and literally despised every moment of it. The traffic, the grind and even the work itself.  It all felt daunting, cut throat and NOT me!

I DECIDED TO TAKE A RISK BY TAKING A TEACHING FIELDWORK COURSE MY SENIOR YEAR AS AN ELECTIVE, AND IMMEDIATELY  FELL IN LOVE WITH TEACHING

Today, I am the type of teacher who might teach things a little unconventional. What I mean by that is, you might pop into my room and see us standing on chairs.  You might hear us singing a math song at the top of our lungs.  You might witness student's interactions of collaboration, speaking their opinions and starting debates based off of learning.  I believe in teaching the standards through experiences and sometimes we don't even crack open a textbook! I believe in making learning fun and not only teaching them what they need to know in 5th grade, but skills they will need in life!

"MY DREAM IS FOR EDUCATORS TO NOT FEEL BOGGED DOWN BY CHANGE, EXPECTATIONS AND CRITICISM.  I WANT US TO NOT BE AFRAID TO TACKLE EDUCATION AS WE SEE FIT FOR OUR STUDENTS IN A CREATIVE WAY. "
